NFL Power Rankings, Week 5: Cowboys free-falling, Bills stay perfect
By Randy Gurzi
At some point, something needs to change. The Houston Texans continue to trend in the wrong direction as they dropped another game on Sunday to fall to 0-4 on the season. Again, it looked as though Deshaun Watson was out there on his own as he threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns but the rest of the team just couldn’t rise to the occasion.
Many of us saw this coming when Bill O’Brien won his power play for full control of the team which led to them removing DeAndre Hopkins. With their former No. 1 wideout gone, they have gone to a committee approach, which simply isn’t working. The numbers look fine but there’s no star player who can step up and deliver the big play when they need it most.
On top of that, the defense isn’t close to what it used to be. At one point, that side of the ball was so strong that they were winning games with Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett. Now, they just surrendered 31 points to a Minnesota Vikings team that has been struggling mightily — and was 0-3 before finally securing a win over the Texans in Week 4.
While the record is painful, the best part for Bill O’Brien is that he has no general manager to answer to. And since ownership was tricked into giving him all this power, it’s not likely they’ll take it anytime soon.
