The New England Patriots fell to the Chiefs in Week 4 and these were the studs and duds.

After a week of uncertainty as to if they would even play in Week 4, the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs took the field on Monday night for a showdown on the national stage.

After Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend, the Patriots and Chiefs game was in question but was ultimately moved back a day after players and team personnel on both sides tested negative. That allowed the game to still be played on Monday Night Football in Kansas City in the first game of a doubleheader of games to round out Week 4 of the 2020 NFL season.

Coming into the game, New England was looking to steal a game on the road with Brian Hoyer leading the charge of the offense under center in replacement of Newton, aiming to improve to 3-1 overall on the year. That would be a tough task for the Patriots to handle, however, as they faced the red-hot defending Super Bowl Champions and undefeated Chiefs on their home field.

At the end of the game, Kansas City was just too much for New England to handle and pulled away late, coming out of the Monday night showdown with a 26-10 victory.

To start the contest on Monday, both teams were held without a touchdown in the first two quarters while combining to record three field goals before halftime. Kansas City tallied two field goals compared to New England’s one, resulting in the Chiefs carrying a 6-3 lead into the break.

In the second half, Kanas City woke up and pulled away late in the final two quarters. The Chiefs broke into the endzone for the first time in the third quarter, holding a 7-0 advantage in that quarter. After the Patriots answered back with a touchdown of their own in the fourth quarter, Kansas City countered that with 13 points to take the game.

With the win, Kansas City improves to an undefeated record of 4-0 overall on the year and remains atop both the AFC and NFL standings going into Week 5. In the loss, New England drops its second straight road game and second game overall of the year, moving back down to the .500 mark at 2-2 overall.

New England will return to action in Week 5 when it heads back home to host the Denver Broncos at Gillette Stadium before going into a bye week in Week 6. Kansas City returns to the field next weekend in Week 5 when it remains at home and welcomes in the Las Vegas Raiders to Kansas City.

With the Monday night contest between the Patriots and Chiefs now over with, let’s look back and come up with three studs and duds from New England in the game.
