NFL MVP: Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks

We potentially have one of the best NFL MVP races that we’ve seen in recent memory developing before our eyes. Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson are all at the helm of unbeaten teams and are all playing out of their minds. So how do you choose?

Frankly, there is a strong argument for all three players with little argument to the contrary. But for me, I go with Wilson through the first four games of the season. Seattle is finally letting Russ cook and he’s making the fact that he’s never gotten an MVP vote look sillier by the day.

Wilson is currently third in the league in passing yards with 1,285 while completing 75.2 percent of his passes, a completion rate that leads all qualifying quarterbacks. He also leads the league with 16 touchdown passes while he’s only thrown two interceptions on the year as well. What he’s doing this season has been remarkable to watch. And for a narrative-based award, it truly does feel like this is his time to win league MVP.

While that might be true, the race is tight enough through four weeks that things could change from one game to the next. If any of Wilson, Rodgers or Allen even marginally takes a step back, one of the other candidates could overtake them if they keep this up. If nothing else, the NFL MVP race should be a joy for fans to watch unfold throughout the remaining 12 games of the year.
