The pressure on Adam Gase and his play-calling continues to mount

Stud: Avery Williamson

Avery Williamson is another player who had a pretty solid day. He was a rare spark in the Jets defense and forced the Cardinals to make plays. He was heavily involved compared to other Jets players out there and recorded 2 pass deflections and an interception.

This is more than all of the cornerbacks combined out there for the Jets. He was also involved in the run game and recorded 6 tackles and 2 assists, the second-most of any Jets’ player, behind only Pierre Desir. The Jets defense was ragged today and seemed to do nothing to contain Kyler Murray or receivers, but it was Avery Williamson who did his best in a bad situation.

Dud: Adam Gase’s play-calling

When trailing by 7 early in the game, Gase had a 4th and 1 well within field goal range. It seemed sensible to get points on the board and cut the deficit, but no. Adam Gase had Jets fans pulling their hair out as he tried to bump Tight End Trevon Wesco through.

I would not have minded as much if he attempted it with Frank Gore, who has been known to carry the ball for a few yards after contact, or even Le’Veon Bell. Wesco fails to read the play, leaving the Jets on the other side as they ran out of downs.

There were plenty more examples of this during the game, for example, why, did Gase think it would be a good idea for Flacco to hand off to WR Jeff Smith for a throw but may well have been a run play gone wrong knowing the Jets.

Whatever useless play this was which lost 16 yards for the Jets, heads will turn to Adam Gase for choosing to go with it. Other questions encircled the game, why did Le’Veon Bell only get targeted once, but unproven Jeff Smith who had a poor game receive 11 targets.

His play-calling has been so frustrating for the team and the fans, and it certainly did not improve tonight
