After an 0-5 start to the 2020 season, the Atlanta Falcons have fired both Dan Quinn and Thomas Dimitroff

It was eventually going to happen, and now it’s official. The Atlanta Falcons have decided to move on from head coach Dan Quinn.

In addition, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the franchise has also decided to part ways with general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

Quinn finishes with a 43-42 record in nearly five and a half seasons with Atlanta. A tenure that will best be defined by one moment and a pair of numbers.

In 2016, as a second-year head coach, Quinn took the Falcons to their second Super Bowl in franchise history, where they held a 28-3 lead against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, before falling in overtime 34-28.

This season, his Falcons held big leads twice entering the 4th quarter against the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears, only to go 0-2.

Dan Quinn’s tenure will be remembered for blowing leads.

It’s an unfortunate truth, but isn’t the truth always hard to bear? The same goes for Dimitroff, since entering the Falcons HQ in 2008, Dimitroff has drafted a number of good players such as Matt Ryan and pulled off a heist in 2011 to trade up and select Julio Jones.

Dimitroff’s best class was in 2016, where he selected Keanu Neal, Deion Jones, Austin Hooper, and De’Vondre Campbell, all of whom made significant contributions to the NFC Championship team.

Unfortunately, the Falcons have truly never recovered from that collapse in Houston. Though they made the playoffs in 2017 and won a playoff game against the Rams, they never seemed to capture the magic that brought them to the big dance.
