Dallas Cowboys studs and duds from emotional Week 5 win
By Randy Gurzi
Stud: Michael Gallup
Like Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup was pretty quiet for most of the game. With the Giants trying to keep them out of the gameplan, Dak Prescott was throwing it to CeeDee Lamb and Cedrick Wilson. Then when the game was on the line, Andy Dalton realized he needed to go for the stars on the team.
Following a pass to Amari Cooper, Dalton targeted Michael Gallup on back-to-back throws that covered 19 yards and 38 yards. They were also both miraculous sideline grabs that needed to be reviewed by the officials. They were each good and set up the game-winner from Greg Zuerlein and they showed off Gallup’s incredible hands and awareness.
Had the refs not decided to fall for Jalen Ramsey’s flop in Week 1, this would have been the second time this season Gallup stole the show and led the Boys to a win. Without Dak Prescott going forward, players such as Gallup will have to step up and will this team to some victories.
Dud: Mike Nolan
Coming into this game, the New York Giants had 47 points on the season. In this contest, they scored 34. At this point, it’s getting impossible to defend Mike Nolan as the defensive coordinator. It’s one thing to give up yards and points to talented teams, it’s another to get gashed by a struggling franchise.
At this point, the Dallas defense is the cure for everything that ails an opposing offense. They can say all they want that the players aren’t doing what’s being asked, but that’s also a reflection on the coaches and right now, the defensive coaches in Dallas are historically bad.
