Dallas Cowboys studs and duds from emotional Week 5 win
By Randy Gurzi
Stud: Andy Dalton
One of the smartest signings of the offseason from the Dallas Cowboys was the addition of ANdy Dalton. Sure, Dak Prescott had never missed a game in his career but having no insurance policy is never ideal. This year, they had one of the best as Dalton is a very experienced quarterback who has won many games in his career.
On Sunday, he proved his worth as he stepped in for Prescott and proved the big stage isn’t too much for him to handle. He calmly completed 9-of-11 passes for 111 yards and while the two passes to Gallup really stood out, he also had a huge conversion to Amari Cooper on second-and-10 while backed up on their own side of the field.
Had Dalton missed that pass, the Cowboys might have elected to force New York to use their final timeout and play for overtime. That play allowed them to go for the win and Dalton delivered.
Dud: Everson Griffen
It wasn’t long ago that Everson Griffen got upset when a Dallas radio personality was critical of his play. Since then, he hasn’t done a whole lot to prove Jeff Cavanaugh wrong in his assessment and while he had a half-sack in this one, he was beaten by tight end Evan Engram on an end-around that led to the first touchdown of the game.
Griffen is far from the weakest link on this defense but the expectation was for him to be a huge addition this offseason and so far, it hasn’t worked out as expected.
