Atlanta Falcons Candidate No. 5: Raheem Morris

The first candidate who could be considered to take things over as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons is a person who is currently on the coaching staff even without Dan Quinn still with the organization.

Following the news of Atlanta firing Quinn, Falcons defensive coordinator Raheem Morris was named the interim head coach to lead the team the rest of the 2020 season.

Morris, who has led the Falcons defense this year, has coached on both sides of the ball in Atlanta and has 18 years of coaching experience. With the Falcons, Morris is in his sixth season and his first as defensive coordinator.

Before coming to Atlanta, Morris was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 through 2011, finishing with an overall record of 17-31 while there. After that stop with the Buccaneers, Morris went on to coach three years in Washington as the team’s defensive backs coach before making the move to the Falcons.

Unless Morris does a remarkable job in turning things around in Atlanta the rest of the regular season this year, you would think the Falcons would prefer to hire someone outside of the organization to bring in a new voice and perspective to the organization. But the fact Morris is now the interim head coach provides him an opportunity to make a strong case as to why he should get the job moving forward.
