1. The three-headed monster runs wild

It is still bizarre to see Adrian Peterson in Honolulu blue but he has been very effective so far. He came in and went straight to No. 1 on the depth chart ahead of Kerryon Johnson and D’Andre Swift. Peterson has seen many snaps and has shown he still has more juice in his legs, particularly in a game’s early stages.

However, that’s not to say the youngsters haven’t had a role to play. Johnson is proving himself to be very handy when it comes to blocking, and Swift shows he has good character after the infamous drop and can be a factor in both the running game and passing game. He has done well in both and, per PFF Detroit Lions on Twitter, is in some good company:

That is an excellent group for the rookie running back to be in. The Lions backfield has the potential to be very good. I’d like to see them in this game use the variety of skill sets they have in the running back room and really stretch this Jaguars defense.

With offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell at the helm, we may see a very creative game for the running backs. Peterson and Johnson’s vertical running ability should mesh well with the receiving and outside zone ability Swift has.

Offensively, the Lions have a lot of aces up their sleeve in this game. They have all the tools to keep the defense off-balance and, with the Jaguars possessing a bottom 10 defense in total rush yards allowed, the Lions could have a powerful day on the ground.

If the run game starts well, it should open up the rest of the offensive playbook and allow Detroit to take more risks downfield and use play-action to give Stafford bigger windows to throw in. The NFL’s current trend is to play off the run game, the Lions have the pieces they need to execute and they should have a big day on the ground.
