Green Bay Packers: 5 Trade targets at the 2020 NFL trade deadline
By Joe Kipp
1. Michael Gallup, WR, Dallas Cowboys
As stated earlier, the Packers are missing a legitimate deep threat who can consistently take away roaming safeties. Marquez Valdes-Scantling is great as a straight-line runner, but he lacks consistency. Far too many times we’ve seen MVS drop a pass on an easy throw and catch.
Cowboys receiver Michael Gallup could be a trade target available for a decent price. Averaging 20.5 yards per catch this season (second in NFL), Gallup would give the Packers a consistent deep threat while also serving as a legitimate No. 2 receiver opposite of Davante Adams. Green Bay likely won’t have Allen Lazard (core muscle) back any time soon, so Gallup would step in immediately as an impact receiver.
The Cowboys drafted Ceedee Lamb in the first round this past April, sending mixed signals for how they see Gallup. Lamb and Amari Cooper could be the team’s first two options moving forward. Gallup has one year left on his contract after the 2020 season, so they may want to cash in now before it’s too late.
Gallup had a breakout season in 2019, reeling in 66 catches for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns. Still just 24 years old, Gallup would be a fixture in Green Bay’s offense for years to come. Trading a third-round pick would probably be enough to acquire his services.
