Detroit Lions: Studs and duds from big Week 6 win over Jaguars
By Tayyib Abu
The Detroit Lions earned a significant win on the road to kickstart their season.
The Detroit Lions came back from their bye week and picked up a vital road win at Jacksonville. The Lions had had a difficult start to the season. They threw away a win in Week 1 against Chicago and they got outclassed in the defeats to Green Bay and New Orleans.
Matt Patricia was on the hot seat before the season began. But his seat was roasting after a 1-3 start. Therefore, they needed to start strongly after the bye week.
They did just that. It was a clean, comprehensive win over the Jacksonville Jaguars and gave Detroit some much-needed momentum as they head into a part of their schedule that looks forgiving on paper. This stretch will define Detroit’s season and go a long way to deciding whether the current coaching staff will return for another year.
Now we may have to caveat this with the fact that it came against the Jacksonville Jaguars. They are not a good team but you can only beat the opposition put in front of you. The Lions under Patricia have not won games convincingly. They have not beaten teams easily.
But they beat this team easily. They brushed aside Jacksonville and, in doing that, they displayed some positive signs for the rest of the year. The defense finally showed signs of life, both in the passing game and the run game.
Detroit’s defense has been porous in the Matt Patricia era. But today, they were imposing, and it wasn’t just the defense. The running game finally came to life on Sunday, as did the ever-improving offensive line. Let’s take a look at who impressed and who could’ve done better in this Week 6 win.
