Detroit Lions: Studs and duds from big Week 6 win over Jaguars
By Tayyib Abu
Stud: Kenny Golladay
Kenny Golladay must be the most underrated wide receiver in the league. “Babytron”, as some fans have nicknamed him, had a perfect day, registering over 100 yards receiving on just four receptions. Golladay has been gradually getting better since he returned from injury and the connection between him and his quarterback is getting better as the weeks go by.
Golladay is everything you’d want in a star wideout. He can run any route, catch the ball from anywhere, gain yards after the catch and be physical against bigger corners or safeties. He only had four reception and still got over the 100-yard mark, showing how potent he can be in a game even when the Lions are leaning heavier on the running game.
In games where he may be targeted more than on Sunday, Golladay has shown he has all the talent to be a constant headache for opposition defenses. If the running game continues to improve, the Detroit passing offense will become even more powerful and it will allow them to be even more creative with how they use Golladay. The only thing the Detroit front office needs to do is pay the man.
Dud: Matt Prater
Matt Prater has been automatic from a distance for a long time in his Lions career. Unfortunately, his radar has been off this season, particularly from 50 yards and more. He has already missed three attempts from 50-plus yards and there was another one in Week 6. For a guy who has been so reliable for so long that will need to change.
The Detroit Lions still have a propensity for going quiet on offense during games. As the schedule gets tougher, they will be in closer games and taking every point available will be vital. If the offense continues to have quiet spells through quarters, Prater will have to find his range from a distance as it could be a deciding factor in tight games. Otherwise, it might slightly change how the Lions go about their offense in third-and-long situations if they feel he won’t make the kick.
