Green Bay Packers served slice of humble pie in Week 6 loss to Bucs
By Joe Kipp
The Green Bay Packers have no reason to panic, even after a terrible Week 6 loss to the Buccaneers.
Week 6 of the 2020 season will be one to forget for the Green Bay Packers after Aaron Rodgers and Co. fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a final score of 38-10. It was the third meeting ever between Rodgers and Tom Brady, as Brady moves to 2-1 after their latest matchup.
The Packers may have gotten boat raced, but the chances of Green Bay’s offense repeating what we saw on Sunday are slim. Rodgers had one of his worst performances in recent memory, finishing 16-of-35 passing for 160 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions. His passer rating was 35.4.
After a blistering start through the first four games, the Packers’ offense was held in check. Green Bay entered Sunday’s game averaging 38.0 points per game (first in NFL). The offense managed to generate just 201 total yards, by far their lowest of the season. Overall, they averaged just 3.3 yards per play.
It didn’t help that the defense failed to hold up their end of the bargain, too.
Don’t worry about the Green Bay Packers after an outlier performance
The Packers run defense continued to be a glaring weakness, as running back Ronald Jones II ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns. The Bucs generated 324 total yards. And for just the second time in team history, they had no penalties.
The Packers were out-played, out-coached and out-manned. Left tackle David Bakhtiari exited early with a chest injury, while safety Darnell Savage left with a quad injury. Bakhtiari’s absence was quickly noticed, as backup Rick Wagner struggled to fill in competently.
If Bakhtiari misses any time going forward, the Packers could be in big trouble. One of the best offensive linemen in the NFL, his presence changes the entire dynamic of Green Bay’s offense. That said, one loss doesn’t mean the Packers’ season is over and everyone should panic.
After all, Green Bay is still 4-1 after five games. Matt LaFleur moves to 18-5 all-time as a head coach (playoffs included). The Packers are well within reach of the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC playoffs still. For now, we’ll chalk Week 6 up as a fluke loss.
