Houston Texans. 27. team. 10. . . Previous: 28th

The Houston Texans arguably took too long to move on from Bill O’Brien as their head coach, evidenced by how much better they have looked in the two games without him. They won last week 30-14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars and then it looked as though they were about to make it two in a row against the Titans.

Facing another AFC South team, the Texans fought back from a 21-7 hole to take the lead late. They even had a chance to make it difficult on Tennessee as Deshaun Watson hit Brandin Cooks for a one-yard touchdown with just under two minutes to go. But then, interim head coach Romeo Crennel got greedy.

Up by seven, he went for two points which would have ensured the win. Had he elected to go for the extra point, it would have been an eight-point game, meaning the Titans would have needed a touchdown and two-point conversion. Crennel’s decision was costly as the conversion failed and Tennessee was able to score a touchdown with four seconds to go.

They easily sent it to overtime after that thanks to them only needing an extra point. Then in overtime, Derrick Henry took over and Houston fell to 1-5. Even with the loss, they held their own against an undefeated team which feels like growth. But it might be a bit too late for that.
