Seattle Seahawks: 5 Bold predictions for Week 7 vs. Cardinals
By Samuel Teets
2. Carson has first 100-yard game
Arizona has a middle of the pack run defense. The team gives up 119.7 rushing yards per game, which ranks 17th in the NFL. Meanwhile, the Seahawks average 115.4 rushing yards per game, which also ranks 17th. Seattle turned away from a run-dominant offense this year to give Wilson more control of the game. However, controlling the clock might be a better approach for Seattle this coming weekend.
With Wilson and Metcalf carving up defenses, Carson hasn’t posted a 100-yard game this season. After averaging 82.1 yards per game over the past two seasons, Carson is only picking up 57.8 yards per game in 2020. Part of that comes from a significant drop in touches. Carson received 18.5 carries per game in 2019, but he’s only getting 12.2 per game this season.
If the Seahawks find themselves stuck in a surprisingly competitive game with Arizona, Carroll’s team should turn to the running game. Carson is still one of the NFL’s better running backs. He can tire out defenses while producing at a high level.
1. Seahawks remain undefeated
While I don’t see this game turning into a blowout for Seattle, there’s no way for the Seahawks to justify losing against a weaker opponent. Unless Wilson falls apart and starts turning the ball over rapidly, Seattle should walk away with a comfortable win. If the Seahawks pulled off their last-minute Week 5 win against Minnesota, this matchup shouldn’t pose too many problems.
This season marks the first time in franchise history that the Seahawks have started 5-0. It would be a shame if that streak came to an end against Kliff Kingsbury’s Cardinals. One of the biggest criticisms I’ve had for Carroll’s Seahawks is that they always play down to the level of their competition. Maybe this Seattle team will dispel that criticism and prove their status as a true title contender.
