2. Atlanta will be led by the run game

So far this season, the Falcons have been led by the high-powered passing game led by quarterback Matt Ryan, wide receivers Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley and others.

Ryan and company have been one of the more explosive offenses through the air to begin the 2020 campaign, although those efforts haven’t resulted in wins as much as the team would have hoped.

In Week 7 against Detroit, Atlanta will try and once again keep that trend going, but the Falcons might run into a bit of a snag in taking advantage of the Lions defense through the air as much as they would like to.

With that said, Atlanta might have to focus more so on the ground game led by running back Todd Gurley and company out of the backfield.

Going into Week 7, Detroit’s defense has allowed opposing offenses to throw for just 1,170 yards through the air, which is the fourth-lowest total in the NFL. Teams have also thrown the ball just 170 times against the Lions, which is the third-least among teams in the league.

When it comes to the run game, Detroit has had more of a tough time limiting that portion of an opposing offense. The Lions have given up a total of 725 yards on the ground (13th-most in the NFL), while giving up seven rushing touchdowns (tied for fourth-most). Offenses have also averaged to run for 4.9 yards per attempt in the run game against Detroit, which is tied for the sixth-most in the league.

Most of the time, we see Atlanta air the ball out throughout the course of a game. But in Week 7 against Detroit, the Falcons will have to take care of business with the run.
