The Dallas Cowboys need to make a trade to hold onto their slim NFC East advantage.

As bad as the NFC East is, the Dallas Cowboys don’t look like a team good enough to win even the worst of divisions. They showed exactly why in their 38-10 loss on Monday night against the Cardinals and while it’s not all Andy Dalton’s fault, he wasn’t helping the ‘Boys in their big loss.

The Cowboys should strongly consider trading for NFL journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was just benched by the Dolphins after playing pretty good football this year. Despite that, the Dolphins decided that turning things over to rookie No. 5 overall pick Tua Tagovailoa was the best decision for the franchise moving forward, and now Fitzpatrick heads to the bench.

Fitzpatrick has been a streaky quarterback throughout his career, but he really was playing well through the Dolphins’ first six games of the season. He had thrown for 1,535 yards, 10 touchdowns, and seven picks and led Miami to a 3-3 record.

Not only that, but he kept the Dolphins competitive in all six games, as they kept it close against the Seahawks and Bills.

Ryan Fitzpatrick wouldn’t fix all of the Dallas Cowboys’ problems, but he’d sure help.

Andy Dalton is arguably one of the best backup quarterbacks in the league, so making this trade wouldn’t necessarily take him out of the starting position. What it would do, however, is give Dallas a nice second option at quarterback.

Fitzpatrick is someone who either plays really well or completely lays an egg, so if they can get a few games out of him where he’s on fire, that could be the difference between the Cowboys winning the division or settling for an under .500 record.

Ryan Fitzpatrick isn’t Dak Prescott, but no one is going to be able to replicate what he can do on the football field. Fitzpatrick gives the Cowboys a shot at winning the division and if nothing else, he could be a motivator for Dalton, who would have a fire lit under him in order to keep his job.

The NFC East is still obtainable for the Dallas Cowboys, but if they play how they played on Monday night, they won’t be anywhere near the playoffs.
