Antonio Brown returning, lands Buccaneers another dangerous weapon
Antonio Brown will reunite with Tom Brady on the Buccaneers in Week 9.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were once a destination where no one arrived. Now that Tom Brady is in town, players like Antonio Brown have flocked to team up.
That’s right. Antonio Brown is heading back to the NFL — at least once his suspension is fully complete.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the former Steelers, Raiders and Patriots wide receiver has officially signed with Tampa Bay on a one-year deal. Brown will likely make his debut against the Saints in Week 9.
Coming off an eight-game suspension handed down by the NFL stemming for a long list of issues, it’s without question a surprise that the former Pro-Bowler is back in the league.
And yet here we are. Brown is back in the NFL, with several restrictions no doubt. His deal is obviously on the cheap side, meaning that the Buccaneers can choose to part ways with Brown if his erratic behavior becomes an issue in the locker room. Given his history, it’s the right thing to do on the part of the team.
On the flip side, his production is warranted. Outside of his off the field behavior, his production on the field is what teams covet. Brown joins an extremely talented group of receivers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Brown will also enjoy the company of Rob Gronkowski at the tight-end position and the backfield duo of Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette.
Signing Antonio Brown is a high-risk, high-reward move for the Buccaneers.
The Buccaneers were already under the microscope given the moves they made in the offseason and through the draft this year. Now, the light gets brighter given the history of Antonio Brown and the questions of whether or not he will fit into the system.
With so many weapons, there’s only one ball to go around. Brown will have to deal with that as he joins a group that’s 4-2 and boasts one of the league’s best offenses and defenses. In addition, Brown will have to maintain a proper attitude and stay out of trouble. His Facebook live antics will not be tolerated and will likely be grounds for removal from the roster if at all it occurs.
Furthermore, Brown has been a guy that is known for “wanting to win”. Well, both sides can agree on that philosophy, provided they maintain a common ground and cooperate with each other. Brown’s previous stops had their moments, but they also had their issues and thus he was out for a period of time.
He’s gotten a second chance. Now the rest is up to Antonio Brown. Whether or not he stays in the league is up to him. As for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they know what they are in for and they must brace for it. If all goes well, enjoy it. If not, you know what you signed up for.
