1. Chicago Bears defense continues to dominate

This Chicago Bears defense is settling in and dominating. The unit had a slow start (for them), allowing an average of 21 points per game in the first three games. Over the last three games, however, they’ve given up less than 20 points in each game and allowed just 18 points per game.

This week they again get in a defensive battle with another quality defense. The Rams rank fifth in points allowed and the Bears seventh. The Bears allowed the fewest passing touchdowns (4) while the Rams ranked 10th (8). Both defenses allowed five rushing touchdowns. This will be a fun game to watch, but maybe not a fun game for either offense.

The Bears have dominated Rams quarterback Jared Goff. In two games against Chicago, Goff has no touchdown passes and five interceptions. We’ll see if they can harass him and force him into another bad game against Chicago.

The “Three Amigos” aka Khalil Mack, Robert Quinn and Akiem Hicks, have done a good job of pressuring opposing quarterbacks. They’ve combined for nine sacks and eight quarterback knockdowns. Mack ranks fifth in quarterback pressures with 29. Having Quinn alongside Mack has certainly helped.

Speaking of Quinn, despite not having the high sack numbers, he’s doing his job. He’s freeing up space for Mack, which is critical for the defense. Also, after recording five pressures all season entering Week 6, he recorded six of them against the Panthers. He’s now heating up.

The Bears’ secondary is one of the best in the NFL. Cornerback Kyle Fuller has allowed opposing quarterbacks a completion rate of just 46.2 percent and a passer rating of just 59.2. Rookie Jaylon Johnson has allowed a completion rate of just 46.7 percent.

Eddie Jackson, who had two pick-sixes wiped out due to dubious penalties, leads all safeties for most targets without giving up a touchdown (16). Future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady didn’t even target any passes Jackson’s way.

This is a matchup of two of the top defenses in the league on primetime. The Bears want to show how great they can be and have a great opportunity to show it to the national audience.

Prediction: Bears defense forces three turnovers (Johnson gets his first career interception), record 4 sacks.
