2021 NFL Mock Draft: Justin Fields takes Washington, Packers get Rashod Bateman
By Randy Gurzi
New 2021 NFL mock draft at Week 7 with Justin Fields and the Big Ten back on the field.
With six weeks of the NFL season behind us, we are starting to figure out how each team stacks up against one another. We also know what their major needs are, which helps as we select players in our latest 2021 NFL Mock Draft.
In this mock draft, quarterbacks come flying off the board, as do pass-catchers in a loaded 2021 NFL Draft class. It’s a pretty strong class in each regard and there are several teams that need help in these areas.
As always, we will use our latest NFL Power Rankings to determine the order, which brings us to the first pick which is held by the New York Jets.
When the New York Jets took Sam Darnold third overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, it appeared they had their future quarterback. However, three years later, we still don’t know what we have in Darnold.
Much of the blame falls on the organization, especially for hiring Adam Gase. But some is also on Darnold who hasn’t been able to stay on the field. With the Jets unsure if they can trust him — and with them bringing in a new coach — they make the move to turn the keys over to Trevor Lawrence.
Just like the Jets, the Washington Football Team thought they had their quarterback of the future. They took Dwayne Haskins in the first round in 2019 but he’s already been benched for Kyle Allen. There are rumors he hasn’t studied and practices poorly, which leads to Washington selecting Justin Fields here.
Three-for-three as three quarterbacks come off in a row. There are those who still doubt Trey Lance due to the level of competition he faced at Trey Lance but he should still be one of the top quarterbacks off the board. And for the Jacksonville Jaguars, they need to finally find a quarterback they can turn to.
If Daniel Jones is ever going to succeed for the New York Giants, they are going to need to surround him with plenty of talent. Jaylen Waddle is a legit No. 1 receiver and the Giants need that sorely. It won’t guarantee that Jones will take the next step but it sure won’t hurt him.
