Dallas Cowboys studs and duds from Week 7 blowout loss
By Randy Gurzi
Dud: Trevon Diggs, Cornerback
The rookie continues to have issues in the NFL, and in Week 7, Trevon Diggs was burnt by Terry McLaurin. Dallas was down 9-3 and had just turned the ball over on downs. The Football Team needed just two plays to take a commanding lead as McLaurin ran past Diggs for a 52-yard touchdown that made it a 15-3 lead for Washington.
Dud: Gallup and Lamb, Wide Receivers
While Amari Cooper caught seven passes, the rest of the team had just four. And none of those were courtesy of Michael Gallup or CeeDee Lamb. The entire offense was bad, so it’s hard to be too angry but the fact is, these two have far too much talent to
Dud: Mike McCarthy
Slow starts, terrible offensive line play, non-existent defense. That sums up the early tenure of Mike McCarthy in Dallas. So far, McCarthy has been a terrible fit and he’s been doing himself no favors sticking with his buddy Mike Nolan as defensive coordinator despite a continued decline in their defensive play.
It’s not just bad. It’s historically bad as they are the first team in NFL history to give up 20 points in the first half of six-straight games according to NFL on CBS.
The worst thing about McCarthy has been that he seems to have lost the locker room in just six weeks. Ahead of this game, there were rumblings from the locker room that players were upset with him and the staff — which included Nolan. What’s crazy about that is Jason Garrett, who was the king of mediocrity, never lose them in 10 years. McCarthy did so in less than half a season. And with this loss, expect the noise to be even louder heading into Week 8.
It’s been hard to watch the Cowboys this season and unless something drastic changes, this could be a one-and-done with McCarthy. While it’s easy to say he deserves a pass since Dak Prescott was hurt, they were still bad with Prescott, and losing the locker room is a death sentence for a coach.
