Green Bay Packers Week 7 Stud: Jamaal Williams, RB

Playing without Aaron Jones on Sunday in Week 7, the Packers naturally turned to backup Jamaal Williams to be the leader on the ground but also the same type of valuable pass-catcher out of the backfield that Jones has been for this offense. Though he didn’t necessarily have an otherworldly day at the office in NRG Stadium, Williams rose to the occasion and delivered a strong performance for the Packers.

Williams rushed 19 times for 77 yards on the day and found the end zone late in the fourth quarter to put an exclamation point on the victory. Perhaps more importantly, he was the second-leading receiver for the offense, catching four of his five targets for 37 yards on the day. For a backup to come in and produce over 100 all-purpose yards is both a credit to Williams and to the offense’s potency.

Green Bay Packers Week 7 Dud: Kamal Martin, LB

Throughout the majority of training camp, one player who was continuously turning heads and drawing rave reviews was fifth-round rookie linebacker Kamal Martin. Even when Christian Kirksey was healthy, there was talk that Martin might be able to crack the starting lineup. An injury kept him off the field to start the year, though. Now back and healthy, it’s clear that he’s still a fifth-round rookie.

Martin wasn’t necessarily a disaster on Sunday but he did have a few lapses. He was out of position on a couple of sets that led to chunk plays for the Texans and definitely experienced some growing pains whenever he was on the field. This isn’t an indictment of his potential by any stretch but Martin should look forward to better days than what he endured on Sunday in Houston.
