Tom Brady sets passing touchdowns record in win over Raiders
For the moment, Tom Brady passed Drew Brees as the NFL leader in career touchdown passes.
The moment may not last long but, on Sunday in Week 7, Tom Brady surpassed Drew Brees for the most career passing touchdowns in NFL history.
A four-touchdown performance against the Las Vegas Raiders gave Brady 559 career passing touchdowns, one more than Brees’ record of 558. Of course, that can change with a large portion of the season left to be played and Brees still on the field. But for now, Brady sits atop the record books while helming the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Buccaneers’ 45-20 victory over the Raiders gives them a 5-2 record and keeps at first place in the NFC South heading into their next game against the Giants. The following week, as fate would have it, they match up with Brees and the New Orleans Saints.
In Sunday’s win, Brady completed 33-of-45 passes for 369 yards and four scores while the rest of the Buccaneers offense seemed to be clicking in rhythm. Tampa Bay got to see another Rob Gronkowski touchdown while Scotty Miller and Chris Godwin constantly made play after play.
Tom Brady and the Buccaneers have come a long way since their 0-1 start.
At the start of the season, Brady and the Buccaneers were struggling as the 20-year veteran threw three touchdowns and three interceptions.
Since then, Brady has gone for 16 passing touchdowns with just two interceptions. In other words, he’s good. Despite his mishap against the Saints and the inability to remember the down against the Bears, Brady has largely been successful.
With the looming return of Antonio Brown, who knows just how good he can get given that his competition in the NFL is rigorous, particularly with Russell Wilson in Seattle and Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.
The season is not over yet and, with the Saints hot on the Bucs’ trail in the division, as well as the rest of the NFC being as competitive as it is, the Buccaneers cannot afford to have any more setbacks. However, they can remain confident knowing that they have a quarterback who can get the job done, as he has proven it throughout his career and this season.
