Chicago Bears: 5 X-factors for getting a win in Week 7 vs. Rams
3. Ifedi has to slow down Donald
The Chicago Bears signed Germain Ifedi as a free agent this offseason to replace the retired Kyle Long. He’s done a solid job so far. He hasn’t given up many pressures and brings in some nastiness that the line lacked without Long.
Ifedi will have his hands full on Monday night. He’ll be the lineman primarily tasked with slowing down All-World defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Two of the most feared names in the NFL are Khalil Mack and Aaron Donald. Mack is Ifedi’s teammate so Ifedi has Donald.
The Bears will likely use someone to help Ifedi out. Going one-on-one against him is a difficult and tiring task. Ifedi should be up to the task, though.
One cannot go into a matchup like this fearing Donald. If you do, you’ve already lost the battle. Ifedi will be ready to scratch, claw, and fight all game long.
Slowing Donald can be done. In 2018, then-rookie guard James Daniels was the primary guy on Donald. Donald finished that game with two tackles and just one quarterback hit, with no sacks. It’s difficult, but it can be done.
This is something that can make Ifedi some money. He signed for just over the minimum for one year. He’s so far giving the Bears a good deal. If he handles Donald and that gets his confidence super high, there will be a suitcase filled with money for him in 2021.
