NFL Power Rankings, Week 8: Packers bounce back, Seahawks stumble
By Randy Gurzi
During their Week 7 bye, the Miami Dolphins decided to make a huge move as they benched Ryan Fitzpatrick after a two-game winning streak. Now, they will turn things over to rookie Tua Tagovailoa and while Fitzpatrick is the ultimate team-first guy, the news still left him with a lot to process.
Fitzpatrick said his “heart just hurt all day” after hearing the news that he would no longer be starting. And even though he knew it was eventually coming, he still isn’t exactly thrilled that he will be having to watch the games after the team just started to gain momentum.
"“Obviously we’ve talked in the past, me and you guys, about how I’m the placeholder and this eventually was going to happen,” Fitzpatrick added via Cameron Wolfe of ESPN. “It was just a matter of kind of when, not if. It still just … it broke my heart yesterday. It’s a tough thing for me to hear and to now have to deal with, but I’m going to do my best with it.”"
Tua is the future and we all knew Miami would turn to him but after winning three of the last four games, it seemed as though Fitz would get to run things a bit longer. Having said that, inserting Tua at the bye is great timing for the team. It just stings a bit for Fitzpatrick, who is one of the easier guys in the NFL to root for.
