NFL Power Rankings, Week 8: Packers bounce back, Seahawks stumble
By Randy Gurzi
At 1-5, the Atlanta Falcons headed into Week 7 looking for their second win of the season. And they nearly had it too as they took a 22-16 lead late in the fourth quarter following a Todd Gurley touchdown. The veteran running back finished off a nine-play, 76-yard drive with the score and with just 1:04 seconds left to play, it seemed as though they would be able to secure a victory.
Unfortunately for them, their defense was unable to hold off Matt Stafford and the Lions. Detroit marched 75 yards on eight plays before Stafford hit tight end T.J. Hockenson from 11-yards out for the game-winner with no time left on the clock.
It was a frustrating end for the Falcons who are now 1-6, which is a far cry from what was expected out of them when this season began. No one thought they were going to be world-beaters on defense or anything, but the talent they have on offense should allow them to compete with just about anyone.
In a way, this has held true as they have been in nothing but one-score games this season outside of their 38-25 loss to Seattle in Week 1. The only problem is, good teams find a way to win close games. Atlanta finds a way to lose them.
