Atlanta Falcons: 3 Players who could be traded at the deadline
1. Julio Jones
If the Falcons decide that they are indeed going to blow up the team and go into full rebuilding mode, then one of the main pieces that would obviously gain the most attention from teams and a player that could get Atlanta the most for in return is star wide receiver Julio Jones.
Jones has been and still is one of the top wide receivers in the entire NFL, now in his 10th season in the league and with the Falcons since the team traded up to draft him with the sixth overall selection in the 2011 Draft.
Since coming into the league, Jones has managed to get selected to the Pro Bowl seven times while earning two All-Pro nods as a professional.
Jones is and would still be the top wide receiver for Atlanta moving forward, but he isn’t necessarily getting any younger and could be ready to move on to a fresh start with a team that is ready to contend for a Super Bowl before he ultimately calls it a career.
Jones will turn 32 years old this offseason and by the time the Falcons are likely contenders again, he could be looking at just a few years left in his playing career at that point. That’s why Atlanta will have a really tough decision to make before the November trade deadline or at least in the offseason.
According to ESPN reporters Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler, some people throughout the NFL have wondered if Jones could become available via trade or if the Falcons would at least entertain the idea to see what teams would be willing to offer. Graziano and Fowler added, however, that won’t be an easy task given Jones’ contract situation.
Jones is set to make about $61.5 million over the next three seasons, and that is money to a player that hasn’t really been able to remain fully healthy for a full year the past few seasons.
There’s no doubt that this move would make a splash in the NFL and would take a team a serious contender with the addition of one of the top wideouts in the league. And with Atlanta seeing Calvin Ridley continue to establish himself as a No. 1 caliber wide receiver in 2020, the Falcons could strongly consider moving Jones while getting a haul in return for the star receiver that could set the organization up nicely for the future.
