New England Patriots: 5 Trade targets on offense at 2020 trade deadline
3. Golden Tate, WR, New York Giants
The Patriots need help at wide receiver, something that has been apparent for the past few years among a unit that has been led by Julian Edelman annually.
One way of shoring up that area of the team while adding a nice veteran player at the same time in the trade market would be by adding veteran wide receiver Golden Tate from the New York Giants.
New England and Tate have been tied together in the past, with the team having a long admiration of the wideout including trying to acquire him in the past to only fall short of doing so.
With the Giants not looking to be a team that will reach the playoffs at the end of the year, you would think they would be open to any options on the trade market before the deadline arrives on Nov. 3. And one player that could find a new home in the middle of the season could very well be someone like Tate.
Tate is due a decent amount of money yet during the 2021 season, set to make about $11 million next year, and that’s a number New York likely wouldn’t want to hold onto while it looks towards the future and where it wants to go as a franchise moving forward.
Tate has been a solid contributor on the Giants so far in 2020, but New York would be wise to at least entertain the idea of getting something in return for him via trade. And New England would be equally as wise to be a team on the other end of the phone asking about Tate.
The 32-year-old could provide Cam Newton and company a nice deep ball and red zone threat to add next to Julian Edelman on the outside of the field and Tate would no question help a struggling passing game for at least the rest of the regular season.
If the Patriots do look to add a wide receiver before the trade deadline, Tate should be one of the names near the top of the list to try and bring to Foxborough.
