The Dallas Cowboys should punt on the 2020 NFL Season
Like Kenny Rogers says, you gotta know when to hold ’em and know when to fold ’em. And the Dallas Cowboys need to fold big time.
Sitting at 2-5, the Cowboys are in a strange spot as their season is going down the proverbial toilet but somehow they’re still in contention for the dreadful NFC East. While team owner Jerry Jones keeps talking about turning things around in the 2020 NFL season, he should instead start focusing on fixing the team in 2021.
Truth is, winning the East would be the worst thing that could happen to this squad. They would get bounced in Round 1 and then would have a terrible slot in the draft when compared to the season they are actually having. For that reason, Jones needs to fix his eyes forward and stop focusing on the now. And perhaps, he’s doing just that.
News broke on Wednesday that Dallas traded away defensive end Everson Griffen for a sixth-round pick. That might not necessarily mean they’re punting just yet, they should. And here we look at three players they should try and trade away.
Honorable mention: Dontari Poe, Defensive Tackle
This is a player the Cowboys are already reportedly looking to trade but the problem will be finding a suitor. Poe seemed to be a steal when Dallas signed him in the offseason but so far, he’s been pretty much a non-factor — and PFF (subscription required) seems to agree as they have him graded at just 55.7 after the first seven games.
Poe is on the books for just under $4 million this season and nearly $5 million in 2021. Getting him off the salary would be nice, but with his play this season, there won’t be any takers.
