The Denver Broncos are an underwhelming 2-4 but fear not — the schedule is easing up.

While Denver Broncos fans likely knew this wouldn’t be the season where they topped the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West, there was some optimism heading into the 2020 NFL season. The Broncos made it a point to get faster on offense and their defense has looked on par through the first six games of the season.

After six games, however, the Broncos have just two victories and can’t seem to get out of their own way. That was apparent in their loss to the Chiefs this past weekend where the defense actually limited Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense pretty well. But the Broncos also surrendered a kickoff return for a touchdown, Drew Lock threw a pick-six and the team had four total turnovers.

The good news for the Broncos is that their tough slate of games is out of the way and they have a lighter load coming up. In their first six games, the Broncos faced the Titans, Steelers, Bucs, Jets, Patriots and Chiefs and as we now know, four of those teams are likely playoff teams in the coming months.

The Denver Broncos should be able to get back to .500 after their next two games.

It’ll be back-to-back home games against AFC West opponents, as the Broncos host the Chargers this weekend, who are also 2-4. That game will determine who gets to reside in the basement of the AFC West and the Broncos get the luxury of playing at home, giving them the edge.

Denver then heads down south to play the Falcons in Atlanta and we’ve all seen how bad the Falcons are this season. Their defense can’t stop much and while the offense is talented, the Broncos defense is looking pretty good this year and should be able to slow them down.

If the Broncos win both of those games, they’re 4-4 and right in the thick of things in the AFC playoff picture. The AFC West crown is likely out of the question, but a Wild Card spot wouldn’t be, especially with the expanded postseason beginning this year.

The Broncos just need to focus on taking care of the football and not making stupid mistakes and these next two weeks could get them back on the right track. It’s certainly not too little, too late for the Denver Broncos as far as playoff aspirations go.
