Detroit Lions: 3 Bold predictions for Week 8 vs. Colts
By Tayyib Abu
1. Marvin Jones has a multiple-touchdown outing
Marvin Jones has had a quiet year so far. So much so that there has been talk that the Detroit Lions may trade him before the deadline. Jones has been slow out of the gate but there are some mitigating circumstances.
Golladay was hurt and Jones isn’t a No. 1 wideout. The Lions are also trying to establish the run and get T.J. Hockenson involved more. So it is understandable that Jones’ numbers would slightly decrease.
But he had a solid outing against the Falcons. He had five receptions for 80 yards, second only to Golladay. Jones showed he still has a good burst and was able to get separation. Now, he could have an even better day against the Colts. Golladay will likely occupy Xavier Rhodes, allowing the Lions other receivers to take on this young Colts secondary.
Stafford is a veteran quarterback who will always try and attack the weaker parts of coverage. Having two experienced receivers in Danny Amendola and Jones gives the Lions the edge in this matchup. The Colts can’t cover everyone, more so if T.J. Hockenson and Swift are a part of passing plays.
Jones can still catch the ball from anywhere and can always be physically competitive against bigger cornerbacks. With the Colts inexperienced secondary occupied by other players, Jones could have a solid day and be the best receiver on the Lions.
