2021 NFL Mock Draft: Cowboys get Patrick Surtain II, Vikings land Trey Lance
By Randy Gurzi
(Pick via Houston Texans): The Houston Texans made a trade with the Miami Dolphins for Laremy Tunsil, which is why this pick here goes to Miami. Houston clearly didn’t make that deal thinking they would be giving up such a high pick, but here we are. And for Miami, they’re thrilled to get themselves a quarterback for their defense in Micah Parsons.
The Penn State product can do it all and had 109 tackles and five sacks last season for the Nittany Lions. Miami is trending in the right direction and still lands one of the best studs in this class.
Joe Burrow is the real deal but the Cincinnati Bengals offensive line is not. They have to start adding players in front of him that can give him time to operate and that’s what Penei Sewell will do.
Kirk Cousins is under contract through the 2022 season but there’s no way the Minnesota Vikings are feeling good about that. For this reason, their top pick in this 2021 NFL Mock Draft is spent on Trey Lance from North Dakota State.
Lance had a remarkable career but he needs to prove he can do it at the next level. He might sit behind Cousins at first, but it shouldn’t take long for him to get his shot.
So it’s safe to say that the Dallas Cowboys made a mistake in letting Byron Jones go. Admittedly, I thought they did a good job spreading the money he wanted around to get several starters but now the majority of the players they signed to replace him are gone. And while Trevon Diggs has a lot of upside, making him CB1 as a rookie has not gone well.
Now, they get one of Diggs’ former teammates to play opposite him as they use the No. 8 pick on Patrick Surtain. This could end up helping the defense quite a bit but they have a lot more holes to fill.
