2021 NFL Mock Draft: Cowboys get Patrick Surtain II, Vikings land Trey Lance
By Randy Gurzi
Terry McLaurin is officially a stud. He’s on pace for 1,000-yards passing this season after having 919 as a rookie. Outside of him, the Washington Football Team doesn’t have a lot to speak of. Quarterback could be an option here, but maybe they give Dwayne Haskins one more shot in 2021 before pulling the plug. Or maybe they find a veteran stop-gap.
Either way, Washington uses the No. 9 pick in this draft on Jaylen Waddle. A fractured ankle ended his season prematurely but he was averaging 22.3 yards per pass before going down. He’s a deep threat who will open up the Football Team’s passing game.
Denver is up next and their defense is not what it used to be. After focusing heavily on offense last year, they address the defensive woes as they land Ohio State’s Shaun Wade. One of the better corners in the game, Wade is just another in a long line of studs that come from Defensive Back University.
Devonta Smith is another Alabama wide receiver to go early in this mock draft as they suddenly have been turning out stars like crazy at the position. Last year, it was Henry Ruggs and Jerry Jeudy. This year, Waddle and Smith get the nod.
For the Los Angeles Chargers, this just helps Justin Herbert continue to grow. They do have a star in Keenan Allen and Mike Williams has been good at times but both have had issues with injuries. On top of that, Williams is slated to be a free agent after 2021, so this gives them options.
Bill Belichick tried it one way, now it’s time to go a different route. The New England Patriots tried to replace Tom Brady with Cam Newton in free agency and it hasn’t worked. The early returns were great but now things look rough.
For that reason, Belichick decides to finally land a first-round quarterback and takes Mac Jones who has been playing for his buddy Nick Saban at Alabama. Jones filled in nicely for Tua Tagovailoa last season and has looked even better in 2020 which has him shooting up draft boards.
