Minnesota Vikings: Dalvin Cook a bright spot despite a bad record
The Vikings have just two wins but Dalvin Cook has been a source of optimism.
When Dalvin Cook and the 1-5 Minnesota Vikings headed into Green Bay to face the 5-1 and heavily favored Packers, it looked on paper to be a mismatch. Cook, meanwhile, refused to believe that the frozen tundra was difficult to conquer.
On Sunday, the running back proceeded to score four touchdowns, three of the coming on the ground, as the Vikings stunned their division rivals 28-22 to grab their second win of the season. In his first game back from a bout with injuries, the Vikings star was a monster.
Green Bay has now lost two of its last three games. One was to a conference favorite in Tampa Bay and now against a divisional rival who despite the record has played them tough in recent meetings.
After the win, Minnesota has to be feeling pleased about the victory despite their below 0.500 record. They can’t be happy with a 2-5 mark for the year and fans are likely still frustrated. But even then, they have to feel confident in what Cook brings to the table after his Week 8 performance and showing when he’s been on the field in 2020.
Dalvin Cook is one of few bright spots on an underachieving Vikings team.
This season has not gone well for the Vikings given how they finished last season with an upset of the Saints in the Wild Card Round before losing to eventual conference champion San Francisco in the Divisional Round.
However, in their victory, Minnesota uncovered many secrets about the Packers and exposed several key flaws that had been masqueraded by the superb play of Aaron Rodgers. One of those weaknesses was exposed thanks to the play of Cook.
Cook is without question one of, and arguably, the most important player on the Vikings roster, and he put his talents to good use against Green Bay.
The Vikings will likely not be a Super Bowl favorite this season and will probably be on the outside looking in come January. However, they do have a strong foundational piece in their running game, and they rode it to an upset victory that has Skol nation clapping louder by the minute.
