Avery Williamson has been traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers from the New York Jets.

Following a 35-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Avery Williamson and the New York Jets dropped to a record of 0-8, the worst in the NFL. Now, instead of flying back to New Jersey, Williamson will trade in green for black and gold as a trade occurred that will send the 28-year-old linebacker to the Pittsburgh Steelers along with a 2022 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2022 fifth-round pick, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This move was likely made in an attempt to replace the production of Steelers linebacker Devin Bush, who was lost for the season earlier this year with a torn ACL. The Jets, on the other hand, continue their rebuild, perhaps in hopes of getting the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Williamson, however, has to feel like the happiest player in the NFL right now. He started the day on an 0-8 team and now gets to join the team with the best record in the league and contend for the Super Bowl.

Avery Williamson is not only a lucky guy but he helps the Steelers defense.

Let’s not get too excited for the Steelers; it’s not like Williamson is the second coming of Bobby Wagner. However, he is a productive player that was in a broken system with New York.

Given the state of the Jets, it’s hard to imagine any player thriving in that environment. Imagine what he could do with the right pieces around him. That’s where the Pittsburgh Steelers come into play. In his career, Williamson has amassed over 300 tackles and 14.5 sacks.

Now with players such as T.J. Watt, Bud Dupree and Minkah Fitzpatrick in the same scheme, you can expect Williamson to be a solid player and help contribute for the ultimate goal of raising a seventh Lombardi Trophy in the Steel City.

Williamson isn’t one of the best players in the league, but right now he just might be the luckiest of them all.
