The Detroit Lions came into their Week 8 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts riding a two-game win streak. Confidence was high, the defense had improved and Lions fans hoped this was the start.
It wasn’t; it was another false dawn. The Lions gave the Detroit faithful enough hope to make them believe, only to watch it disappear in an instant as the Colts crushed the Lions. The past 25 years have been full of false dawns and this is another. Keep your schedules busy in January; these Lions aren’t going anywhere.
Sunday’s contest was a game where the Lions were terrible in every phase of play. Combined with some incompetent playcalling and the Lions deservedly got destroyed at home. The Lions consistently fell into third-and-long situations and frequently got penalized. If you ever wanted the perfect advertisement for Detroit Lions football, this was it, a vintage performance.
At 3-4, the Lions’ 2020 season is done. This team is stuck in another lost season. Don’t let the upcoming schedule fool you; the Lions are only just better than the hopeless franchises they will play over the next four weeks.
Today was the prime opportunity to prove that this is a serious team — but they aren’t. The time was now when they had to cash in on the hope and optimism and to beat a team with a winning record. Instead, they showed the NFL what they are.
The Detroit Lions are a flawed team with no discipline and lousy coaching. The Colts deservedly won; nothing worked for Detroit in Week 8. Matt Patricia is now in serious trouble as the natives are restless. Lions fans want changes now. It was a miserable performance and nobody played well. There are no studs this week, just duds.
