NFL trade deadline blockbuster No. 2: Evan Engram to the Cardinals

Quietly enough, the Arizona Cardinals are very much in the mix in the NFC West. As they come off of their bye in Week 8, the Red Birds are at 5-2 and sit just a game back of the rival Seahawks. They also have an advantage over Seattle after an overtime win over their divisional foes in Week 7. But they also need to make as big of a push as possible to get over the hump.

What’s been most impressive about the Cardinals this season is the level that their defense has been playing at. Most people pegged that side of the ball as a reason that Kyler Murray and Co. would struggle to contend this season but that largely hasn’t been the case. In fact, the offense’s inconsistencies have been a bigger issue for Arizona.

No question, DeAndre Hopkins has been a huge asset for the Cards. But big-play threats like Christian Kirk and Andy Isabella still leave Murray and the offense without another reliable option at all levels of the field. That’s why calling the lowly New York Giants about tight end Evan Engram might behoove the Cardinals at the 2020 NFL trade deadline.

Engram’s potential has been obvious from the moment the G-Men used a first-round pick on him. The situation he’s in, however, has never been close to ideal. So as Big Blue enters another potential rebuild, they could be looking for as many draft assets as possible. Trading away the dynamic tight end would give them quality return while also helping the Cardinals take another step forward and potentially move into the NFC West driver’s seat.
