NFL trade deadline blockbuster No. 1: Michael Gallup to the Packers

On the heels of the Green Bay Packers’ second loss in their last three games after a 4-0 start to the 2020 season, there is plenty of talk about the defense. And without question, the team’s issues in stopping the run need to addressed. But perhaps that could be accomplished by moving on from defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.

The more prevalent issue for the Packers is the lack of weapons in the passing game, something that has plagued them for quite some time. Many maligned Green Bay to make a move at wide receiver during the offseason, whether that was via trade, free agency or in the draft. Instead, their only move was to sign Devin Funchess, who then opted-out of the 2020 season.

But now heavily in the NFC playoff mix still and with Allen Lazard out still due to injury, the NFL trade deadline offers an opportunity to make a push to get Aaron Rodgers someone other than Davante Adams to rely on. So why not call the ailing Dallas Cowboys, who dropped to 2-6 on the season in Week 8, about wide receiver Michael Gallup?

Gallup has been wildly inconsistent this season but his potential is undeniable. He’s capable of being a deep threat for Rodgers while also still being able to operate on other levels of the field. With Dallas also facing a tough decision about Gallup’s next contract, perhaps they could look to move on and recoup some draft capital instead. If so, the Packers are an ideal fit.
