NFL trade deadline Winner: Tennessee Titans

Another phenomenal trade pulled off on Monday about 24 hours prior to the actual deadline came out of Nashville. The Tennessee Titans are on the heels of two straight losses and need to find some answers on defense.

Thus, they traded with the Los Angeles Chargers for former All-Pro defensive back Desmond King, sending only a sixth-round pick in the 2021 draft to land the Iowa product. For whatever reason, the Chargers coaching staff had fallen out of love with King and he rarely saw the field. Now the Titans get to address a huge weakness with 99-cent store prices.

While many have pointed to the Titans pass rush as a problem, the bigger issue has been the health and, subsequently, poor play in the secondary. They haven’t been able to cover long enough for pressures to yield results. King will help tremendously with that and could get the season back on track for Tennessee.

NFL trade deadline Loser: Houston Texans

If there was one thing I was sure would or should happen at the trade deadline, it was that the Houston Texans would try to recoup at least some of the draft capital that they lost during the reign of Bill O’Brien. Whether that meant trading Will Fuller, Randall Cobb, J.J. Watt or a number of other pieces, it seemed like a prudent move for a team that has one win through eight weeks in the 2020 season.

They didn’t do a darn thing. They sat on their hands and stood firm at what they valued and didn’t get anything back for the draft. Yes, they’ll have a chance to do the same in March but it was a bit rough to see a team that is in such a bad position for the future have an opportunity to improve their standing and not budge.
