The Patriots trading for Isaiah Ford isn’t the biggest splash, but it gives them help.
Dolphins wide receiver Isaiah Ford is not a name that resonates around the league, but his position is of value for a team like the New England Patriots. Right before the NFL trade deadline, New England made a rare inter-division trade that sent the former Virginia Tech wide receiver from South Beach to Foxborough per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Given how depleted the wide receiver corps is for New England this year, it was a move that had to be made. In addition, with the team sitting at 2-5, there isn’t much you can ask for from Ford except for hoping he’s an upgrade from what has been given to quarterback Cam Newton and the rest of the offense.
As for Miami, they continue to build for the future and after what they did against the Los Angeles Rams, albeit with Jared Goff committing a number of turnovers, the future is heading upwards.
Isaiah Ford brings some familiarity to the New England Patriots.
As many members of Patriots Nation will recall, it was the Dolphins who knocked the Patriots from a first-round bye in Week 17 with a stunning upset. While DeVante Parker received a majority of the credit, Ford was on the field that day and had seven catches for 54 yards in a 27-24 upset.
So far this season, Ford has 18 catches for 184 yards and zero touchdowns. His best game came against Buffalo when he had seven catches for 74 yards.
No touchdowns for the year is a concern for New England. However, he does have adequate size for the position and has familiarity with the system given the fact that he was coached by Brian Flores.
Isaiah Ford may not be the flashy sign that Patriots fans wanted at the trade deadline to jump-start their roster, but given who they have currently, it’s worth taking a flier on him.
