Dallas Cowboys re-tool roster in 7-round 2021 NFL Mock Draft
By Randy Gurzi
Before the 2020 season, there was a lot of talk about how dominant the Dallas Cowboys defensive line could be. They had DeMarcus Lawrence, Everson Griffen, and Aldon Smith with the possibility of Randy Gregory returning. They also added Bradlee Anae in the fifth round which was very encouraging as well.
So far, that edge-rushing group has been a disappointment. Griffen has already been traded away and while Smith has been a pleasant surprise, the group overall just hasn’t been as effective as they hoped. The return of Randy Gregory should help but he’s still getting his legs under him.
While Dallas has to hope they continue to improve, they do at least add more talent to the room here with Duke’s Vicotr Dimukeje. A 6-2, 265-pound defensive end, Dimukeje has a lot of experience and has really turned it on as a senior, recording 7.5 sacks in his first seven games. He should be able to compete for snaps early on in his career.
(Estimated comp pick on The Draft Network) – While the lack of sacks from their defensive ends has been a topic of discussion, the real problem for the Cowboys defensive line has been in the middle. Dontari Poe never lived up to the hype and has already been cut and while Antwaun Woods has been an improvement, they need more help in this area.
Enter Tedarrell Slaton from Florida. Slaton is a load at 6-5 and 358 pounds and has the power to match that frame. Dallas lucks out here as Slaton’s value dips some since he’s a two-down player but he should be able to log plenty of time as a rookie on run downs.
