4. Za’Darius Smith racks up 2+ sacks

When the Green Bay Packers spent big in free agency during the 2019 offseason, it was clear that they were wanting to make a big splash on the defensive side of the ball. They succeeded with the additions of Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith and Adrian Amos, all of whom have played well since arriving in Titletown.

Za’Darius Smith, however, has been the unquestioned star of the group. He put forth a Defensive Player of the Year caliber season in his first year with Green Bay — even if he didn’t win the award — and has picked up right where he left off now. Through seven games, Smith has six sacks and nine tackles for loss, both marks that lead the team.

On Thursday Night Football, he’ll continue to add to his total. Not only is he a terrific player who makes plays in big games but the matchup before him is one that sets up for him to have a big-time performance.

With Trent Williams being ruled out for Week 9, Smith will be going up against a backup on that side of the line. Furthermore, he’ll be rushing Nick Mullens, who’s playing in relief of Jimmy Garoppolo. Given the talent downgrade the 49ers are making there, that should allow Smith to get home to the quarterback multiple times on Thursday night.
