Green Bay Packers: 5 Best players at halfway point of 2020 season
By Joe Kipp
At midseason for the Green Bay Packers, who have been the five best players in Titletown?
After another win in Week 9, the Green Bay Packers are 6-2 through eight games played this season. At the halfway point of 2020, it’s hard to find many faults in the Packers’ performances thus far.
The Packers appear to be one of the NFL’s elite teams, mainly due to their offensive output. The offense is off to a historic pace, averaging over 30 points per game. The defense hasn’t been outstanding by any means, but the bend-but-don’t-break strategy employed by defensive coordinator Mike Pettine seems to be working (so far).
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has never been better and Davante Adams is proving to be the best receiver in football. The duo has an argument for being the best quarterback/receiver combo in the NFL. When Rodgers is clicking, it’s a beautiful thing to watch.
Suffice to say, without those two, the Packers offense probably wouldn’t be much. We do need to be fair to running back Aaron Jones, too. Jones is proving to be one of the NFL’s top runners this season, despite missing two games with a calf injury.
On defense, the Packers haven’t had a breakout performance from any one player this season. Last year, we saw outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith take over games at will. The only player on defense who’s been a star this season is cornerback Jaire Alexander.
Alexander has shut down some of the league’s top receivers this season. The third-year cornerback is having an All-Pro-caliber campaign, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him make his first Pro Bowl, either.
The Packers have had their issues, but it’s hard to complain about the team’s success through eight games. Of course, such success doesn’t happen without stellar play from a select group of players. Here are the Green Bay Packers’ five best players at the halfway point of the 2020 season.
