Green Bay Packers: 5 Best players at halfway point of 2020 season
By Joe Kipp
1. Aaron Rodgers, QB
There isn’t much more to say about Aaron Rodgers. The two-time MVP, Super Bowl-winning quarterback is on track to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Rodgers has had some remarkable seasons, but would you believe me if I said the 2020 season has been the best of his career?
Rodgers is just the second quarterback in NFL history to have 24 touchdown passes and two or fewer interceptions in his first eight games of a season. The other player to do so is Tom Brady. Rodgers has been incredibly efficient this season, with his only two interceptions coming in the same game: Week 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In eight games this season, Rodgers has completed 67.5 percent of his passes for 2,253 yards (8.0 yards per attempt), coupled with 24 touchdowns and two picks. He has a 117.5 passer rating. For reference, Rodgers is off to a better start than his 2011 campaign, which is largely considered the best season by a quarterback in NFL history. Rodgers posted the highest passer rating in league history that season (122.5), a record that still stands.
A huge reason Rodgers has been on fire this season is because he’s throwing on time and in rhythm within coach Matt LaFleur’s offense and has time to throw the ball. When Rodgers is playing at his best, the Packers offense is unstoppable. He’s undoubtedly been Green Bay’s best player through the first half of the 2020 season.
