The Dallas Cowboys need to cut these three players before the 2021 season.

It’s safe to say this isn’t how the Dallas Cowboys expected their 2020 season to go down. They’re sitting at 2-6 at the halfway mark and while it’s easy to try and say this is due to them losing Dak Prescott for the season, that wouldn’t be correct.

Prescott suffering a broken ankle surely ended all their hopes of contending this year but the fact is, even with him out there, they weren’t winning. Dallas won their Week 5 game after Prescott went down, so he gets the win on his record, but overall they were 2-3 with him starting and one of those wins was a miraculous victory that came down to a crazy onside kick.

The real problem in Dallas is that they’re simply not good. They have several players who are overpaid and many more who underperform. With that being the case, we look at four players who they need to give a pink slip to in 2021 as they look to rebuild.

4. Chris Jones, Punter

No one pays punters. It’s a known fact. These are guys you hope to never have to use and when you do need to rely on them, it’s best to go with a young guy who hardly dents the salary cap. That is, unless you’re the Dallas Cowboys. Because then, you give a guy an $8.7 million contract over four years.

While that in itself has been an issue, Dallas decided to stick with Jones despite the fact that his numbers have continued to decline year after year. In 2021, they finally need to make the cut. And if they did, it would save them $2 million of his $2.5 million cap hit next year according to OverTheCap.com.

Not only is having $2.5 million dedicated to a punter ludicrous in itself, but Jones is also currently slated to bt the 11th highest-paid player on the team that year. That makes this one an easy move to decide on.
