Washington quarterback Kyle Allen suffered a horrific leg injury against the Giants.

The New York Giants have been witnesses to two of the most gruesome quarterback injuries of the season. First, they saw Dak Prescott go out with a compound fracture in his ankle. Then on Sunday in Week 9, the list added another quarterback in Washington Football Team signal-caller Kyle Allen.

In the first quarter, the Washington Football Team quarterback dropped back to pass as Jabrill Peppers came on a blitz. The Giants safety was blocked low, which sent him flying into Allen’s leg, causing it to dangle as he went to the ground in clear pain. He was carted off the field and replaced by Alex Smith, another player who has suffered a terrible leg injury in his career.

Allen took over as the team’s starting quarterback after former first-round pick Dwayne Haskins was benched. Throughout his starts in Washington this year, Allen was 1-2 with 548 yards and four touchdowns to one interception.

Though he went undrafted, Allen had his moments while at Texas A&M and at Houston, throwing for 4,238 yards, 37 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. Allen signed with Carolina following the draft before being traded to Washington for a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Kyle Allen is another in a troubled history of QB injuries in Washington.

The quarterback position in the nation’s capital has been a revolving door since Mark Rypien’s magical 1991 season in which they won the Super Bowl over Buffalo. Smith has been a productive player, but as mentioned before is coming back from his own rough experience.

Washington is no stranger to quarterbacks suffering lower leg injuries against the Giants — just ask Lawrence Taylor and Joe Theismann and, of course, the aforementioned Smith. Allen was later diagnosed with a dislocated ankle combined with a small fracture.

Washington will likely proceed forward after this week with Smith as the starter and Haskins as the likely backup. Let’s hope Allen is able to recover 100 percent and do so speedily for his sake.
