Derrick Henry once again leads the Titans over the Ravens
Just as in the postseason last year, Derrick Henry mowed over the Ravens.
Last season in the AFC Divisional Playoffs, Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry ran and threw over the Baltimore Ravens for an upset victory over the top seed. In the first matchup between those two teams since that night, it took overtime, but Henry did it again as Tennessee escaped town with a 30-24 victory.
Henry finished the game with 133 yards on 28 carries and the game-winning touchdown run in overtime. While Ryan Tannehill outplayed Lamar Jackson, the game still went into an extra period in which the Titans reverted back to their recipe that brought them to within a game of the Super Bowl.
Defensively, the Titans only sacked Jackson once with Jadeveon Clowney on IR. Additionally, the Ravens turned the ball over only once, an interception to Amani Hooker. Ultimately, the load was once again placed on Henry’s shoulders and he delivered. Tannehill did have a costly interception to Tyus Bowser but Henry managed to negate that with another great game.
The Titans should not divert from Derrick Henry as their guiding force.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it; that should be the Titans mantra.
Tannehill threw for 259 yards but that’s not what the Titans’ identity has been throughout this season and largely the history of their franchise. It has been about the running game and defense. Eddie George can attest to that.
Furthermore, head coach Mike Vrabel has entrusted Henry to lead this team since he took over. Vrabel knows about this philosophy as he has been the beneficiary of it as a player with three rings from New England. The Titans are now 7-3 like a number of teams in the conference, only they have a spot in the playoffs while Baltimore is now third in their division.
No matter the game, no matter the arena, the plan is simple. Either you contain Derrick Henry or you risk him being the reason your team loses. The Ravens didn’t contain either the pass or the run and, as a result, they were defeated and have to remember the Titans as a result.
