NFL Power Rankings 2020, Week 12: Chiefs claim No. 1 spot, Packers drop again
Though it will be a bit overshadowed because it was for a team that is just 3-7 on the year after Sunday, one of the best stories of the week was that Alex Smith picked up his first victory since the devastating leg injury he suffered that almost legitimately killed him and, less seriously, almost ended his football career.
In a slugfest with the Bengals, Smith rode the two-headed monster in the backfield of Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic to a 20-9 victory at home on Sunday. The defense remained the strength of this team as they came up with a number of big plays that limited the success of Cincinnati, even before Burrow was carted off due to injury.
Though they come in at No. 29 and don’t move up in the rankings after the win, Washington is a fascinating team right now. It remains to be seen if the offense is good enough to compete with quality teams with Smith at the helm but they have an opportunity at hand.
The struggles in the NFC East at large leave the division crown up for the taking and the Football Team is right in the mix. Though they have some hard games left on their schedule, Washington building off the win over the Bengals could push them into the playoff mix.
