NFL Power Rankings 2020, Week 12: Chiefs claim No. 1 spot, Packers drop again
Understanding that Matthew Stafford was not 100 percent healthy in Week 11, understanding that Kenny Golladay and D’Andre Swift were not available for the game and understanding that the defense has been problematic all year, this might be rock-bottom for the Detroit lIons.
Playing against a Carolina Panthers team — albeit on the road — that was without Teddy Bridgewater and Christian McCaffrey, Matt Patricia’s team got thoroughly worked on Sunday. The final count was 20-0 in favor of the home team but the Lions getting shut out doesn’t do their paltry performance enough justice.
With only 40 rushing yards on 17 carries and with Stafford completing just 18-of-33 passes for 178 yards, the Lions offense couldn’t move the ball against a defense that has been quite lackluster for most of the year. Throw in the fact that the Panthers backups consistently move the ball well and this was an awful day to be a Lions fan.
It’s abundantly clear that Patricia is not long for this job. It remains to be seen if he’ll get the ax before the end of the regular season but it has to be coming. Performances such as this one in addition to the overall state of the team are not justifiable for a head coach that should be taking steps forward with his team by now.
