NFL Power Rankings 2020, Week 12: Chiefs claim No. 1 spot, Packers drop again
If there was a party in the Atlanta Falcons locker room about the prospect of getting to face the Saints led by Taysom Hill on Sunday, that celebration was exceptionally premature. Because even with Drew Brees out, the Falcons were thoroughly outclassed for 60 minutes on Sunday as their NFC South rivals took care of business in the Superdome to earn a 24-9 victory that wasn’t even as close as that may make it seem.
The Falcons couldn’t get anything going on offense throughout the day. Matt Ryan threw for just 232 yards — albeit with Julio Jones on and off the sidelines with a hamstring injury — and two interceptions while Todd Gurley was the leading rusher with just 26 yards on the ground. We all know that the Atlanta defense is a bonafide issue too and that bore out as Hill had almost 300 total yards and actually looked the part of a starting quarterback in the NFL.
After winning three of their last four games prior to Sunday, there may have been some optimism creeping up for the Falcons prior to traveling to the Big Easy. But after seeing this performance on Sunday, it’s obvious that this team is not in a spot to compete with the top-half o the league and that the organization is going to have to do some serious soul-searching this offseason to turn things around.
